9/25/08 public entry

I haven't really made any public journal entries since I've been here, but I think it's time to say hello.
so Hello. I'm Brody.
as pathetic as it sounds, if anyone knows how to do laundry properly and is willing to show me, I've got this weird fancy fruity smelling bath stuff - or vouchers - to trade for the knowledge. hot water has shrunk some of my t-shirts. yeah.

when you find out, let me know. this whole housekeeping bullshit's not agreeing with me.
not a problem, man. I was thinking I could go to the laundromat and try to pick up on it while watching other people but I'm not too sure how that would be taken.
you'd probably get labelled the creepy laundromat stalker before long.
hence my dilemma. I'm hoping someone will take pity on me. I'm thinking bribing with coupons will have them clamoring for the opportunity.
's far as I know, you're supposed to coldwash everything unless the tag says otherwise. And don't stick your colours in with your whites. Wash your socks and undies seperately from the rest of the load and seperate from each other. Also, another tip. Uhm, if you hang your shirts up when they're still damp, right after the spin cycle and give them a good shake, they don't need ironing.
uhm. Hi! I'm Owen.
And don't worry about bribery. 's only fair someone tells you. It's not like it's world shattering information or anything.
Oh, you are all such boys. You wash whites in hot water, usually with bleach, unless they're stained. Those you'll want to pre-treat with stain remover and soak in cold water (usually overnight), then wash in cold water. Heat will set stains, especially stuff like urine, grass, or blood. Wash bedding in hot water to kill germs and mites, same for towels, etc. Bear in mind that hot water will shrink and fade faster than colder water. Wash light colors, jeans, synthetic fabrics, or wrinkle-free anything in warm water. It's gentler than hot water but may still cause some shrinking or fading over time. Wash dark fabrics, washable silk and suede, fragile lingerie and delicates, t-shirts that will definitely shrink (not undershirts), or anything that is tight and you don’t want to shrink.
You can get away with washing most stuff in cold water, which will help it last longer, but the thought of sleeping on germy sheets has me washing them hot all the time. Definitely separate your loads so your colors don't bleed, and don't leave things sitting in the dryer too long or you'll have to iron it all. Air-fluff delicates and wrinkle-free things; most stuff you can use the air-dry setting on the dryer but you can use heat with sheets/towels/etc.
How do you not pick this up after a while? :-P
I think I like Owen's way better. You lost me at pre-treat.
I'm more confused than ever.
Oh, right. Sorry! I've just always done it with cold water. It's the way my mum used to do it, y'know? we all grew really fast, so I guess she was trying to avoid shrinking? I dunno. I've never really had a problem with just sticking to cold washing, but I might try the sheet thing.
hi owen. thanks for the tips! it all sounds very complicated to me but we'll see if I can manage it.
Not a problem! Jillian's got some really good advice too, so yeah. I hope it helped.
Hello, Brody. I'm Penny.
I wash just about everything in hot water if the label doesn't say otherwise. I usually buy my clothes a little loose so if they shrink it's not a big deal... I lost some weight while I was underground anyway and haven't gained it back yet.
Especially sheets and towels, those get a /capfull/ of bleach too. Not too much! Or they'll fade really fast. Just enough to make the white parts really white. Cold water for stuff like jeans or anything made of mostly cotton.
Um, sorry. I guess that's not really a big help...
Hi Penny. Balloon girl, yes?
thank you for the tips! it does help. i'll give it a try and see what happens. if I shrink my clothes or turn them different colors, I'll have only myself to blame.
