There really is a bear. We didn't get many browns in Yellowstone, but there were plenty of black bears and grizzlies.

You don't want to get too close to any of them, of course—they won't flat-out attack you, but if you frighten them or get too close they might. Plus, if you have any food that smells the least bit appetizing, they'll go for it. I don't know how many times I had to hear the campers complain that their sites had been ravaged by a hungry grizz.

It's sort of comforting, knowing that there's still some form of life around here. Besides us, of course.
